Sushi Cafe (Little Rock, AR)

The sushi selection in Little Rock, as with all inland states, can be perceived as somewhat limited. To me, however, Little Rock offers an impressive array of selections when it comes to raw fish. Considering the chains (Benihana, Samurai, Kobe, Sekisui) and the local (Sushi Cafe, Kiyen's, Hanaroo, Mt. Fuji), the selection is wide. One of the most popular places in town, however, is the Sushi Cafe, located on Kavanaugh in the Heights.

Sushi cafe bills itself as the finest eclectic dining in Little Rock. My impressions are less eclectic, more trendy. The rolls are generally delicious. The sashimi and sushi are fresh and delicious. The other options, from spicy edamame to stuffed dumplings are unique and interesting. While I appreciate the food at Sushi Cafe, my experiences there occasionally been somewhat lacking, usually by way of the "front of house" staff. If you're looking to score some good food, though, I'd hit it up.

A couple tips for sushi lovers that don't already know: it's ok to eat sushi on Mondays (or Sundays), and always avoid the white tuna.

Menu:
Great selection of rolls with an easy to read menu. Lots of apps and other food that is fresh and tasty. Plenty to choose from, even for a non-sushi eater. Prices are on the steep side, but this is sushi we're talking about.

Food:
Some creative dishes (including rolls) that are unique to the restaurant. Some of the dishes are exciting, some are they "usual." Always had good food there.

Atmosphere
Trendy and low key. A great date place. Always humming. Somewhat loud on weekend and busier nights, but tolerable.

Service:
Unfortunately the only drawback to the restaurant. Front of House is cold and apathetic instead of warm and inviting. Sometimes forgetful of the essentials (chopsticks, silverware, etc.). Staff usually can answer questions, but I've encountered a lot of "I've never tried that."
