After receiving some feedback from one of my close friends, it was decided that I should review a restaurant Blair and I visit frequently. While most of my reviews focus either on new, nice, trendy, or unique restaurants, this one focuses on a staple: Señor Tequila.
After sampling Mexican food from around the region, I've come to the conclusion that the food at Senor Tequila (and many other similar restaurants here, namely El Porton, Casa Manana, La Hacienda) is of a variety I will dub Arkamex. It consists of Americanized staples like fajitas, enchiladas, and taco salads, and is predominantly known for its white cheese dip (which, coincidentally, is made almost universally with American cheese...recipe link), processed guacamole and good service at cheap prices.
Menu: ★★★☆☆
Plenty of selection but limited to Mexican (oddly enough). It features, just like every other Mexican restaurant I've ever been to, the same 4 primary ingredients rearranged on the plate and called something different: tortilla, cheese, beans, protein of choice. Sometimes add tomato or lettuce or onion. Side of guac or sour cream. Call it fajitas, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, etc.
Food: ★★☆☆☆
Flavor is there, but quality of ingredients is par. The chips are fresh and not usually bunched together to form the mega chip I find elsewhere. The produce tastes a day old occasionally. The cheese dip is the perfect runniness-- not super thick, not super thin. The meats are appear to be cut with a mandolin or power slicer. But the flavor is there.
Atmosphere: ★★★☆☆
Take out the stereotypical decor and you have a diner. Lots of booths to accommodate more quiet. Usually fairly busy, so always a hum.
Service: ★★★★☆
Really the shining point of this restaurant. Quick, friendly, and extremely efficient. There have been times when I've waited-- no lie-- only 2-3 minutes for my food. At it's worst, only a few minutes wait, even during peak hours (Sunday after Church).
