I'd gotten word there was some pie of mythic proportions to be found in Central Arkansas, and so we met up with a couple of friends to journey to Keo, AR in search of the much vaunted pastry. We were told, and appropriately so, to get to Charlotte's Eats and Sweets early, order pie with our meals, and enjoy. They cut the pies once a day, and when they are out, they are out. All sage advice.
They pie was stellar. After eating a good but forgettable sandwich, we cut through the mountain of meringue and enjoyed a luscious collection of cherry, coconut, chocolate and caramel pies. The crust is supper crumbley and the filling is rich and coma inducing. I would agree: they have some great pie.
If you're heading there to eat some pie, also check out the nearby antique mall. It's huge!
Menu: ★★★☆☆
As far as food goes, there's little to choose from. They do have a great daily pie selection, which rotates and is seasonal. You're not going here for the main course... you're here for dessert.
Food: ★★★★☆The pie really is amazing. It is everything a pie should be. Crust is crumbley and buttery. Fillings are rich and luscious. Fruit fillings aren't overly sweet or tart, well balanced. The meringue is just a little thick, but it's showing off. Really tasty and light.
Atmosphere: ★★★☆☆Actually pretty good for a small town diner. Lots of old antiques and small collections. It feels like my grandmother's dining room, with china on display, great food smells coming from the kitchen.
Service: ★★★★☆Nice folks, helpful and knowledgeable.
