For some time now, Blair and I have been trying to eat healthier-- but time and creativity can be quite the challenge with a 12 month old at home. Recently, however, Blair discovered a service called
Blue Apron, and our lives haven't been quite the same.
When she first described what
Blue Apron is to me, I was beyond skeptical. A service that delivers a recipe and all the fresh ingredients needed, to your door, once a week, for 3 meals; No extra ingredients, no trying to find that one missing item, and all pre-measured for easy cooking: Yeah right (I thought it would be like Jenny Craig or Nutriystem or something like that). And then we tried it--
MIND BLOWN. It was simple. It was fun. It was convenient. It was adventurous. It was delicious.
Let me describe the first week's menu, and let you
see what I'm talking about, as well as read about it.
|
Salmon with Fennel Salad and Ground Mustard New Potato Salad |
|
Beef and Rice Stuffed Roasted Pablano Pepper with Cilantro Sour Cream |
|
Chicken Satay with Rice, Peanut Butter and Mirin Dipping Sauce, and Pickled Green Tomato Salad |
So let me clarify a few things-- all the above ingredients were delivered raw, whole, and not precooked. There are
no pre-made sauces, there are
no mystery concoctions, there are
no pre-cooked ingredients. What I truly love about this service is that it still let's you cook, know exactly what is going into your food, and to learn as you fry, bake, roast, sear, and taste. It just takes some of the hassle out of it.
As you can see, the menu is varied: We went from more a traditional salmon dish, to southwestern, to Thai in one week. Everything was delicious, and the portions were big enough for a hearty appetites like my own. The best part? Every meal sent is only 500-700 calories.
Meals for two cost $60 per week ($10/person/meal). You pick when you want food, and when you don't (no commitment)-- so if you're going out of town for a week, or have other dinner plans, you just skip a week. You pick 3 meals from 6 options. There are even vegetarian options.
I want to close by saying this: I'm not going to get any kickbacks or referral credits or anything by bragging on this little company (though I should); I'm just so extremely impressed that I had to share. So if you're up for some adventure, want to free up a little time, and still want to eat delicious, wholesome food that you can prepare for your family in a jiffy-- Try It!

How the food comes. Everything is in proper proportions, and EVERYTHING is included-- you only have to have salt, pepper and olive oil on hand. |
